PADI CORAL REEF CONSERVATION

PADI Coral Reef Conservation Specialty Course with Dive The World Burma - photo courtesy of Mike Greenfelder

Everyone likes to scuba dive or snorkel on a vibrant coral reef, in warm, clear water, yet few people know much about what they’re seeing or the importance of reef ecosystems. The AWARE - Coral Reef Conservation Specialty course teaches divers, snorkellers and non-divers about the complexity and vital role of coral reefs in the marine environment and how to help conserve these vital systems.

The course also familiarises participants with the current state of health of Burma's and the world's coral reefs and how you, the participants, can help.

This non-diving course includes:

  • An introduction to Project AWARE;
  • The importance of coral reefs to marine ecosystems and coastal areas;
  • Coral reef biology, association and competition;
  • The status of the world's coral reefs;
  • How participants can help, including responsible diving and snorkeling practices.

Anyone who has an interest in the aquatic world can take this course. There are no prerequisites or age restrictions since no in-water sessions are required to earn this non-diving PADI certification.
